Donald Trump’s special envoy for peace negotiations, Jared Kushner, stated that the only thing missing for a war-ending agreement is Ukraine’s consent to give up territories within the boundaries claimed by Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

Kushner stated at the annual YES forum, held in Kiev on September 12, that Washington has already prepared most of the peace agreement, however, its signing is blocked by Ukraine’s refusal to make territorial concessions to Russia.

“President Putin has drawn the line of what he wants to achieve. If Ukraine would want to retreat to that line, then, obviously, we have the rest of the agreement ready and in place. At this moment, Ukraine does not want to do that. And, obviously, our role as mediators is to find a creative solution that does not violate their wishes and helps them achieve their objectives, in a way that we can persuade Russia to end the conflict, so that, we hope, both sides can move forward in a framework where this does not happen again.”

Kushner also said that the mediators’ task is to find a “creative solution” that would allow the conflict to be frozen. At the same time, he believes that the territorial issue should be resolved based on the situation on the battlefield.

In his speech, the American president’s envoy avoided mentioning the fact that Russia is committing a genocide in Ukraine, instead focusing on a rhetoric that equates the losses suffered by both sides. He argued that both Kiev and Moscow are going through “much suffering” and have “a great desire” to end the war.

“At least for now, they [the Russians – ed.] are saying the right thing, namely that they want to discuss a way to resolve this… President Zelenski is very committed to this process, from what we’ve seen. From what we’ve heard, President Putin is also very committed to this process. We need to find the right formula, which we hope will work for everyone and allow this process to move forward.”
