Turkey, a NATO member country with the second largest army in the western alliance, will consider elevating its relations with the security bloc led by China and Russia, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday.
“Turkey’s prospect of becoming a full-fledged member of the organization does not imply a break from any other bloc or from the West,” Erdogan argued, according to a transcript of the statements he made to journalists during the return flight from Kyrgyzstan, as reported by Reuters and News.ro agencies.
Erdogan participated on Tuesday in Bishkek at a SCO summit, where Turkey is a “dialogue partner”.
