The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the German Charge d’Affaires, Bernd Finke, on Wednesday. The decision comes after Berlin’s accusations of Russia’s involvement in a drone attack committed at the beginning of August, at the Leipzig airport.

Finke was informed that Moscow regards the accusations made in Berlin as anti-Russian. However, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Moscow, Alexandr Grushko, has so far ruled out breaking off diplomatic relations with Germany.

“We will give diplomacy a chance, but diplomacy is a two-way street,” Grușko commented on the German’s summons and accusations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has associated Berlin’s accusations against Russia with the declining popularity of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, reports Agerpres.

“The Chancellor is in a difficult political position. He does not enjoy the trust of his citizens. And it is clear why: because he does not defend national interests,” said the Russian president.

We remind you that Germany has directly accused Russia of sabotage and hybrid warfare, holding Moscow’s special services responsible for the drone incidents at the Leipzig airport. One of the flying devices was found near a Ukrainian aircraft, which was transporting military equipment.

Shortly after the announcement by the German authorities, European leaders declared solidarity and informed that they are discussing new sanctions and pressures on the Kremlin.
