Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski stated that Ukraine is ready to assist in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, however, so far, allies have not asked for this, although they have requested technical expertise.

Zelenski emphasized that Ukraine has significant experience in protecting maritime routes, gained in the context of the Black Sea conflict. According to him, similar situations have already been successfully managed by the authorities in Kiev.

“We paralyzed the Russian Fleet in the Black Sea and pushed them away from the corridor. Then we organized convoys for civilian ships using maritime drones to counter Russian helicopters and other offensive weapons”, explained the Ukrainian leader in an interview given to the AP agency, according to RBC Ukraine.

He specified that, currently, the food corridor is operational and under Ukrainian control. “We can share this expertise with other countries, but no one has asked us to come and help in the case of the Strait of Hormuz. Our partners have only asked us to share our expertise“, added Zelenski.

Crisis in the Strait of Hormuz

Tensions in the region escalated after Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz following joint attacks by the United States and Israel. The decision led to a global oil crisis and a rise in fuel prices.

Subsequently, the authorities in Tehran announced that they only allow the transit of ships belonging to states considered non-hostile. Last week, Iran authorized the passage of 20 ships under the Pakistani flag.
