Sweden is set to hand over to Ukraine a cargo from the Russian ghost fleet, confiscated in early March, loaded with Ukrainian wheat, claims Kiev, stolen from Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, according to court documents consulted on Thursday by AFP, reports News.ro.
The Supreme Court of Sweden has refused to review the appeal filed by the shipowner, thus confirming two previous decisions ordering that both the ship and its cargo be handed over to Ukraine, the Court stated in this ruling pronounced on Tuesday.
A 96-meter long ship, Caffa, set sail from Casablanca, Morocco, on February 24th and was heading towards Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Swedish police boarded the ship off the coast of Trelleborg (south) on March 6th.
The Swedish prosecutor’s office has seized the ship, following a request for judicial assistance from Ukraine, in which Caffa is targeted by a judicial investigation, according to the decision of the first instance court.
The ship is on the list of sanctions imposed by Ukraine, sailing under a false flag of Guinea, and ten out of the eleven crew members are Russians.
