The terrorist attack took place in Savyolovsky station square, one of the main railway hubs of the capital.

According to the Russian Interior Ministry, the attacker approached the patrolling police officers and detonated the explosive device. The perpetrator died on the spot.

Images published by local media show the police car with shattered windows, without catching fire, next to the railway lines. The area was immediately cordoned off, and several ambulances intervened at the scene, writes theguardian.

Initially, the authorities announced that the perpetrator had fled, however, after analyzing the surveillance images, it was confirmed that he had died in the explosion.

The Ministry did not provide details about the type of device or the attacker’s motives.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case for attempted murder of a public order officer and for illegal possession of explosive devices.
