Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded the leader of the separatist administration in Tiraspol, Vadim Krasnoselsky, the Russian Federation’s Order of Honour. According to Moscow media reports, the official from the self-proclaimed region was decorated for “strengthening national unity.”
Although Russia does not officially recognize the independence of the Transnistrian region, Krasnoselski was introduced as the “president” of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
“Despite difficult conditions and attempts to exert external pressure, the republic continues to develop steadily under his leadership. Its residents, representing various ethnic groups, stand together to defend their rights and interests, uphold historical truth, and preserve the Russian language,” the Russian leader said.
Vadim Krasnoselski holds no official status in the Republic of Moldova. He most likely flew to Moscow via Chișinău Airport, although this has not been officially confirmed, according to Zona de Securitate. The honour comes shortly before the end of Krasnoselski’s final purported term in office. The region’s so-called presidential elections are scheduled for 13 December.
