A new episode of the war in Ukraine shows how quickly the battlefield transforms into a laboratory of military technology. Images surfaced on platform X capture an unmanned ground vehicle of the Ukrainian army engaged in a direct exchange of fire with a Russian soldier, in a night confrontation entirely filmed by combat cameras.
In the past two years, Ukraine has become a testing ground for autonomous weapons, explosive-laden drones, and infrared surveillance systems. This time, in the foreground appears a remote-controlled ground vehicle, equipped with a heavy Browning M2 machine gun, advancing among destroyed buildings, in a devastated rural landscape.
The camera mounted on the vehicle captures the precise movements of the weapon, scanning the area in the dark. Above, a drone with a thermal camera identifies a Russian soldier hidden among buildings. In the infrared images, he appears as a white silhouette in a completely black setting, trying to find shelter.
According to reports attributed to the 411 UAV Battalion “The Hawks”, the drone would have transmitted the coordinates to the operator of the ground vehicle. The robot stops, aligns the weapon, and opens fire. In the aerial images, the flashes of the bullet trajectories are visible, and the silhouette of the soldier seems to be hit twice, falling to the ground. Subsequently, a small intensity explosion illuminates the place where he was.
