The authorities in Moscow have obliged schools and colleges to open museums dedicated to the war in Ukraine. The announcement was made by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, on his Telegram channel.

According to this, 175 such museums have already been established in the city. In 2025, there were over 2,300 educational institutions in Moscow, which means that “special military operation museums” have appeared in approximately 8% of schools and colleges, according to the calculations of the Agenstvo publication.

The exhibitions include over 250 “artifacts” from the front and thematic installations. Sobyanin argues that these help students “better understand the recent history of their homeland and its heroes.”

Among the examples mentioned are the “Donbas. Return” museum from school no. 1164, “For the truth!” from school no. 1517, as well as an exhibition from school no. 1409 dedicated to graduates participating in the invasion.

Such museums have also been established in the “Viktor Talalikhin” Educational Complex, the Automation and Information Technologies College No. 20, the “V. M. Maksimciuk” Firefighting and Rescue Technical College, and in the First Educational Complex of Moscow.

According to the Agency, the emergence of these “special operation museums” throughout Russia began following a directive from President Vladimir Putin in the spring of 2023. By March 2024, over 200 such exhibitions had already been opened in Russian schools, according to Radio Svoboda, where objects from the front, such as fragments of shells and other trophies, are also on display.
