Reza Heidari, an Iranian doctor, translator, and activist based in Romania, argues that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s supreme leader, plays a crucial role in the Tehran regime’s leadership and is “more fanatical” than his father, Ali Khamenei. In an interview with Digi24, he discussed the growing dissatisfaction in Iranian society and the hope for a radical regime change.
According to Reza Heidari, in recent years, Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, would have been at the center of Iran’s power mechanisms.
“Ever since Khamenei became the supreme leader of the Islamic state of Iran, in fact, his right hand was his son, his second son, Mojtaba Khamenei,” Heidari stated on Digi24.
He maintains that, although the orders officially came from the supreme leader, their implementation would have been coordinated by his son. “It is true that all orders to kill people came from Khamenei, but the main executor was his son. His son gave orders to those who had to shoot”.
The activist asserts that Mojtaba Khamenei is deeply contested by a part of the population. “People hate him even more, I can say, and surely he will be removed because if he comes to power it will be much worse and much harder”, said Heidari.
“People in Iran hope for the complete overthrow of the regime”
In his opinion, the tensions and protests in Iran clearly show that a significant part of society does not just want a change of leader, but a complete transformation of the political system.
“People in Iran hope for the complete overthrow of the regime. People in Iran are not waiting for the change of the regime’s pawns, for one to go, another to come, and the same regime to remain. So, the total change of the regime”, he asserted.
