The President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, states that he will maintain an “open dialogue” with the representatives of the Gagauz People’s Assembly who act in the interest of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, but excludes any form of legitimization or negotiation with individuals associated with groups that he considers influenced by the convicted fugitive Ilan Șor and the Kremlin. The statement was made in the context of the call launched by the new president of the Gagauz People’s Assembly, Valentin Gaidarji, who requested the relaunch of the dialogue between Comrat and Chisinau.

“I will always have an open dialogue with representatives who act in the interest of citizens and the Republic of Moldova. However, I cannot legitimize or negotiate with individuals associated with groups serving the interests of a convicted fugitive like Șor and the Kremlin“, is stated in the response sent by Igor Grosu’s advisor, Aurica Jardan, for independent.md.

At the same time, the President of the Parliament emphasizes that the election of the leadership of the Gagauz People’s Assembly is the responsibility of the local legislature, and the authorities in Chisinau will continue to work for the citizens of the autonomy and for the entire country.

“Our responsibility is to continue working for the people of Gagauzia and for the entire Republic of Moldova,” the message further states.

The reaction comes after Valentin Gaidarji announced, during a press conference, that he has sent letters to President Maia Sandu, the Speaker of the Parliament, and several ambassadors, requesting the relaunch of a “sincere and constructive” dialogue between Comrat and Chișinău.

The new president of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia stated that autonomy should be viewed as a “pillar of stability” and rejected accusations regarding Ilan Șor’s influence over local leadership.
