Russia imposes restrictions on the import of peaches, apricots, nectarines, and cherries from Turkey. The announcement was made by Rosselkhoznadzor – the authority responsible for veterinary and phytosanitary supervision.
The press service of the agency reported that the measure will apply to products originating from five Turkish companies, writes The Moscow Times.
“The decision was made due to the systematic detection of organisms in stone fruit products that are subject to quarantine for the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union,” stated Rosselkhoznadzor.
The authority did not specify what parasites were detected in the Turkish fruits. Interestingly, however, the measure was announced just a few hours after the Turkish foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, met in Kiev with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andriy Sybiha.
Following the meeting, the official from Ankara stated that Turkey is ready to join the security guarantees for Kiev and coordinate their maritime component.
Previously, the Kremlin imposed import restrictions on several fruits and vegetables originating from Armenia, after Yerevan began to increasingly align with the European Union.
