A man from Kiev has received the maximum sentence after voluntarily collaborating with Russia in attacks on the energy infrastructure that powers the capital of Ukraine.
A court in Ukraine has sentenced to life imprisonment, with confiscation of wealth, a 32-year-old IT specialist from Kiev for state treason, committed under martial law. The decision was announced on February 16 by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), according to Euromaidan Press. The accused helped Russia coordinate attacks on power networks, anti-aircraft defense systems, and military positions.
Prosecutors from the Donetsk region demonstrated in court that the man voluntarily collaborated with Russian forces, adjusting their strikes on the power grid that provides energy and heat to the capital. These attacks are part of a systematic campaign by Russia, which has targeted Ukrainian infrastructure with over 600 combined drone and missile attacks in 2025.
