The Donald Trump Administration warns that halting the $400 million ballroom construction project at the White House poses a risk to the safety of the president and his staff, being a matter of “national security”.

The administration of President Donald Trump is in the midst of a legal conflict after a federal judge ordered the suspension of the construction of the famous White House ballroom, a project estimated at 400 million dollars. However, the president’s officials argue that this decision jeopardizes the security of the president and his family, and have asked a federal appeals court to suspend the order.

In a motion filed on Friday, April 3, the lawyers of the US National Park Service (NPS) warned that the judge’s order “threatens serious harm to the national security of the White House, the president and his family, as well as the president’s staff”.

They emphasized that “time is of the essence!”, referring to the materials and structures planned for the construction of a “heavily fortified” installation, which includes bomb shelters, military facilities, and a medical unit. The ballroom is part of the administration’s plans for a rapid remodeling of the White House and the surrounding grounds, according to The Guardian.

We remind you that District Judge Richard Leon, appointed by former Republican President George W. Bush, ordered on April 1st a temporary suspension of the project, which also involved the demolition of the east wing of the White House. He argued that such a construction can only be built with the approval of Congress and that Donald Trump is not the “owner” of the White House. In addition, the judge says, there is no law in the United States that “gives the president the authority he claims to have.”
