The Governor of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, has justified her disappearance from the public eye for several weeks. The official has been absent from important economic events and has not been seen since the beginning of June.
Nabiulina appeared at a press conference of the Central Bank, writes Meduza. When asked about her absence from a meeting with Putin where inflation, the Petersburg Forum, and the Conference of the Association of Securities Market Participants were discussed, the official justified that she had a cold and had lost her voice.
“I can only confirm that I was indeed ill. I lost my voice for a while. And the only thing I can say is to thank those who were genuinely concerned about my health,” said Nabiullina.
The press service of the Central Bank of Russia had previously reported that Nabiullina was supposedly on medical leave. However, some voices claimed that she was absent from events due to critical views regarding the policy promoted by the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin, and her disappearance could be a step towards removing the governor from the circles of power.
Nabiullina is serving her third term as the head of the Central Bank and, according to the law, this should be her last, expiring in June 2027.
