The war in Ukraine is “far from over” four years after the Russian invasion, said foreign policy analyst Iulian Chifu on Antena 3 CNN. The director of the Center for Conflict Prevention also ruled out a meeting between Volodimir Zelenski and Vladimir Putin. Iulian Chifu explained that as long as the Russian president does not give up his maximalist claims, namely the “complete surrender of Ukraine”, and the ultimatums he gave to Europe and the USA in 2021, the war cannot end.

Negotiations for peace in Ukraine will not lead to an agreement as long as Vladimir Putin does not give up his maximalist claims, believes analyst Iulian Chifu, because that means the Russian leader leaves no room for any kind of compromise. The director of the Center for Conflict Prevention warned that Vladimir Putin does not only want the complete surrender of Ukraine, but he wants a return to the world order after the reunification of Germany.

“I do not expect major changes, because all the signals and all the internal sources show us that Vladimir Putin has not changed his maximalist demands. Therefore, we do not have a negotiating point, he remains in the same positions from which the war started.

He wants a complete surrender of Ukraine. Repeatedly, even ritually, we could say, every three to four days, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, reappears, reminding us that he is actually referring to the fundamental conditions of the disputes,” Chifu maintains.
