Bulgaria gains additional revenues of millions of leva, in the context of the current crisis caused by the low level of the Danube, after the regional energy market reacted to this situation with a higher demand for electricity and an increase in exports.

The Minister of Energy, Iva Petrova, announced that the country is currently exporting between 32,000 and 33,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per day, the record levels being determined by the situation in neighboring countries, according to news.ro. The official reported that the solid interconnections that Bulgaria has with the energy systems in the region allow the country to take advantage of the existing market conditions.

The Minister recently visited the Kozlodui Nuclear Power Plant, where the extremely low level of the Danube is constantly monitored.

“Two days ago, I visited the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant and indeed, the level of the Danube is at a record low. The on-site teams are monitoring the situation 24 hours a day. The power plant is currently operating without any problems,” Petrova declared.

According to this, the situation remains dynamic, however, if the river level stays close to the current values in the next week and a half, the energy system will continue to function normally. Petrova assured that Bulgaria has enough capacity to cover domestic consumption, including through thermal power plants, battery storage systems, and other available resources.
