Banks in Latvia are definitively eliminating the Russian language from internet banking services and mobile applications. The decision will be implemented starting from May 21.

The resolution adjusts Latvian legislation to new regulations, which limit financial communication to the state language and the official languages of the European Union, reports IPN. The country’s largest financial institutions have already begun notifying their customers.

Customers who have been using banking services in Russian until now must manually select the communication language in the applications by May 20th. Otherwise, the system will automatically select the Latvian language interface.

The removal of the Russian language from the digital banking environment is the final step in a broader process. Previously, it was excluded from the interfaces of ATMs throughout the entire territory of Latvia.
