Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced on Wednesday that he had discussions with American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to “revitalize diplomacy” and find a way out of the war with Russia, at a time when negotiations are stagnating, notes Agerpres.

It was a productive and important discussion about how to revitalize diplomacy and advance towards peace. Peace is necessary – a dignified peace -, and Ukraine has been ready for it for a long time,” Zelenski declared on X.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at the end of June that he is awaiting the arrival of American negotiators to resume discussions, more than four years after the start of the war.

The US mediation efforts between Kiev and Moscow have been stagnant since the beginning of the war in the Middle East, at the end of February, with Washington’s attention focused on Iran. The negotiations are particularly blocked due to the issue of territories in Ukraine claimed by Russia. Moscow demands the complete withdrawal of the Ukrainian army from the Donbas region, in the east of the country – a request that Kiev rejects.
