Volodymyr Zelensky said his country would halt attacks on Russian oil refineries, as his American counterpart Donald Trump has requested, if the United States supplies Kyiv with Patriot missiles.
The Ukrainian leader told the American press that his team had discussed the issue several times with the U.S. presidential administration, according to Agerpres.
“I said we cannot do that as long as Russia is attacking our energy sector and killing our people. We made it clear that if you want us to stop attacking Russian refineries, then the Russians must stop attacking our energy infrastructure. Another option: give us Patriot missiles,” Zelensky said.
Ukraine’s president says that if Washington supplies the systems for 30 days, his forces will halt attacks on Russian oil refineries for the same period. Although Donald Trump approved the sale of 500 Patriot missiles to Ukraine on Friday, the Ukrainian leader believes deliveries could take years and has asked the US and EU to provide the equipment from their own stockpiles.
