The Russian-American proposal for ending the war in Ukraine has been labeled as “absurd” and “unacceptable” by representatives of the Ukrainian government, in the context of negotiations between Volodymyr Zelensky and a high-ranking delegation from the Washington government.
According to them, the proposal, which would have been prepared by Kirill Dmitriev, a close associate of Vladimir Putin, and Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, represents a “provocation” intended to sow discord and “disorient” Ukraine’s allies, they added.
A Western diplomat told The Guardian that the Russians are trying to take advantage of the internal crisis in Ukraine. “It seems that Dmitriev launched this plan at a time when Zelensky is weakened. The Russians know very well how to use such situations,” he said.
