A new restrictive mechanism has been proposed in Russia — this time, on payments within computer and mobile games. It is about a voluntary limitation of expenses, including for the purchase of virtual currency, items, and other digital options.
The initiative belongs to the Vice President of the State Duma, Vladislav Davankov, and deputies Sardana Avksentieva and Yaroslav Samylin. The three have sent an official request to the Minister for Digital Transformation, Maksut Shadaev, reports RIA Novosti.
The authors of the proposal emphasize that these transactions represent the main source of income for most modern games. Producers encourage impulsive spending of users — in exchange for real money, players can obtain advantages or rare items. The deputies point out that Russian legislation does not have specific regulations for the video game industry and payments made within them.
In their opinion, this legal void creates risks regarding the development of game addiction and financial spending, both among children and adults. The costs can reach hundreds of thousands of rubles and are often borne with the help of parents’ bank cards.
