RISE Moldova is the first organization from the Republic of Moldova whose activity has been declared undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation, announces the team of journalists. The decision was adopted by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation on January 29, 2026, and published by the Ministry of Justice on February 10, 2026.
The publication’s activity in Russia is prohibited, and Russian citizens who collaborate with RISE Moldova or financially support it risk fines of up to half a million rubles or imprisonment of up to six years.
The list of undesirable organizations in Russia includes 329 international organizations. Most of them are legally based in the USA, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
RISE Moldova notes that in the last decade it has published dozens of investigations about Russia and its influence in the region, including The Russian Laundromat (a scheme for laundering 20 billion dollars through Moldovan banks), “Dear Compatriots” (about Russian propaganda), #Kremlinovici, The Russian Fleet from Moldova, as well as investigations about the invasion in Ukraine. At the same time, the journalists claim that they have documented Moldovan oligarchs and politicians who are hiding in Russia and who are discreetly acting at the Kremlin’s command.
