The European Union decided on Friday to add six Russian citizens to the sanctions list. These are scientists who developed the toxin used for the poisoning and killing of opposition figure Alexei Navalny.
The EU accuses them of working on the development of epibatidine – a chemical weapon that was “very likely” the cause of Navalny’s death in prison, reports news.ro.
The six sanctioned Russians are employees in military institutions. The sanctioned individuals will have their assets frozen and will be prohibited from receiving funds or financial resources, directly or indirectly, from EU citizens. Furthermore, they will not be able to travel to the European Union.
In total, 31 individuals and six entities from Russia are sanctioned by the EU for the proliferation of chemical weapons.
