The former US special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that Russia would not end its war against Ukraine even if it conquered the entire Donbas, comparing Russian President Vladimir Putin to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

“It doesn’t stop here. That’s how Putin is”, Kellogg told Kyiv Independent, comparing Moscow’s territorial claims with Nazi Germany’s claims on Czechoslovakia before the outbreak of the Second World War. “He is somewhat like Adolf Hitler”, he added.

Kellogg mentioned the 1938 agreement between British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and Hitler regarding the Sudetenland region.

“Adolf Hitler told Chamberlain: «We only want the Sudetenland»“, Kellogg reported. “A year later, after Chamberlain returned from Munich and said «Peace in our time», we were in World War II.”

“A year after the day he returned from Munich, we were in the Second World War. And this is my concern: that we will end up in a Third World War,” Kellogg concluded.

Keith Kellogg, a retired American general and former US special envoy to Ukraine, ended his term on December 31, 2025 and subsequently joined a think tank in Washington.

Known for his stance on “peace through strength“, Kellogg played a significant role in negotiations between the USA and Ukraine, repeatedly criticizing Russia’s attacks. He currently maintains that Putin could end the war almost immediately if he wished to do so.

“Putin could stop the war in five minutes if he wanted to”, said Kellogg, arguing that the ambitions of the Russian leader extend far beyond the territories that Russia currently claims in eastern Ukraine.
