Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that Ukrainian hackers launched a cyberattack on the Russian emergency service’s mobile app, which sends out threat alerts. The Ukrainian leader said the attack was a response to the hacking of a similar system in Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, the hacking of the “Air Alert” app was “one of hundreds and thousands of similar attacks” that the Russians launch against Ukraine’s banking, pension and social welfare systems, as well as many other public services.
The Ukrainian “Air Alert” app was hacked on the evening of November 1, Meduza reports. Users received false alerts about radiation threats, chemical hazards, and a possible nuclear attack.
On the night of November 2, the Russian emergency services’ mobile app was hacked, and the public received warnings of an imminent nuclear attack.
