Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, reportedly ordered Russian troops to halt their offensive in Ukraine’s Donetsk region and shift to defensive operations. Blogger Mikhail Rogoza shared the information on his account on the social media platform X, according to Dialog
According to him, the Russian army reportedly halted its autumn offensive in the Donbas due to fuel supply problems within Russia.
Fuel stockpiled for the offensive in the Donetsk region is reportedly set to be diverted to Moscow, which is once again facing a severe shortage amid renewed Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.
The Kremlin reportedly made this decision immediately after the attack on the refinery in Kapotnya.
In Rogoza’s view, Gerasimov’s order signals a shift to a defensive posture by the Russian army in the Donetsk region. However, Russian troops will continue localized attacks so that the Russian General Staff can announce the “capture” of more Ukrainian territory.
Rogoza stressed that the Russian army had once again failed to carry out President Vladimir Putin’s order to capture the entire Donetsk region by the end of 2026. The blogger believes Russia will not achieve this in 2027 either.
According to him, the Russian army faces a particularly difficult situation near the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Russian troops are also bogged down in urban fighting for control of Kostiantynivka.
