Lithuania, a member country of NATO and the European Union, has proposed sending troops to assist the USA in the Strait of Hormuz, writes Reuters, Sky News and LRT on Monday.
Thus, the Baltic state should send dozens of soldiers to the area, the Defense Council decided on Monday, presided over by President Gitanas Nauseda, in a proposal addressed to the parliament in Vilnius.
The Defense Council of Lithuania – a body composed of top political and military leaders – has approved the deployment of up to 40 soldiers and civilian defense personnel in an international mission aimed at ensuring free passage in the Strait of Hormuz, the press office of the Lithuanian president stated on Monday, May 11.
According to a press release, the Council supported the deployment of “up to 40 soldiers and civilian employees of the national defense system” to participate alongside allies in international maritime security operations on this strategically important waterway.
