Lithuania is building a new military camp at the Rudninkai training base, located near the border with Belarus, to host German soldiers and other NATO troops, announced the Ministry of Defense of this country on Thursday.
The new camp will be able to accommodate over 1,000 soldiers who will participate in military exercises in the Baltic country, reports the German agency DPA, quoted by Agerpres.
On a surface of seven hectares, residential and support buildings will be constructed, along with technical infrastructure and transport links, the cost of which is estimated at 40 million euros. The construction work is expected to be completed in the first half of 2028.
The German armed forces are currently establishing the 45th Armored Brigade in Lithuania, this being Germany’s first permanent external military deployment since World War II. This deployment was proposed by the German government in response to the increasing threat from Russia, and the brigade was officially activated in April 2025.
