The United Kingdom has expanded the sanctions regime against Russia, in the context of the war in Ukraine. The measure is part of a new package of 70 measures, aimed at reducing the Kremlin’s economic capacity to support military actions.

Among the entities targeted is also a company from Nigeria, accused of supporting the A7 network associated with the fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor, involved in attempts to evade international sanctions.

A key aspect of the new measures targets Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet”. Over 20 oil tankers have been included in the sanctions list, and the total number of restricted vessels reaches over 600, reports IPN.

For the first time, the sanctions also target four cargo ships associated with the Arctic LNG 2 project and used for the transportation of liquefied natural gas. In addition, the maritime transport companies Dilmas and Kord-Bunker are targeted, along with the insurers Balance Insurance and Rosgosstrakh.

Financial institutions such as Wildberries Bank, Yandex Bank, Eurofinans Mosnarbank, and Banca Viatici have also been added to the sanctions list.

The British government has clarified that these measures, announced during the G7 summit in Évian, represent a response to the ongoing attacks on Ukraine, including on the Lavra Pecerska Monastery, damaged on the night of Monday, June 15.
