The Belgian Minister of Defense, Theo Francken, has announced plans to supply F-16 fighter jets to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to a correspondent from the European Pravda in Brussels, Francken stated that Belgium has decided to offer more aircraft than initially promised.
“As for Ukraine, we are intensifying our support even more. We will assist by delivering seven F-16 aircraft this year. There will be seven F-16s this year, four for spare parts and three operational ones, which will fly in Ukraine’s airspace to defend it against Russian aggression,” said the minister.
Previously, Belgium had committed to providing only four non-operational aircraft, which were to be used as a source of spare parts for other F-16 aircraft.
Initially, Brussels planned to deliver these planes during the period 2025-2026, but so far no delivery had been announced.
Francken emphasized the importance of the transfer of operational aircraft, noting that they have demonstrated their efficiency against Shahed drones and cruise missiles.
