On February 26, at the OSCE headquarters in Tiraspol, a new first working meeting of political representatives in the Transnistrian settlement process took place, after almost a year-long break. Deputy Prime Minister Chiveri pointed out at the 1+1 format meeting that the objective of the Transnistrian dispute settlement is the reintegration of Moldova and not the development of alleged bilateral relations between the two banks of the Dniester, according to the Bureau for Reintegration.

The official also proposed that starting from September 1, 2026, all educational institutions in the Transnistrian region should introduce the study of the Romanian language into the educational process.

This was the first meeting of Valeriu Chiveri with the representatives of the separatist power, after his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration. The official from Chisinau discussed with the alleged foreign minister from the left bank of the Dniester, Vitali Ignatiev.

After a long period in which the press from the right bank of the Dniester did not have access to Transnistria, a team of journalists was able to attend the meeting, alongside the delegation formed by representatives of the constitutional authorities.

During the meeting, there was also talk about the creation of a convergence fund, made up of national and international contributions, intended to finance social and infrastructure projects on both banks.

The regime in Tiraspol was reprimanded for not respecting human rights, with the need reiterated for the release of Moldovan citizens from illegal detention. It was also demanded to stop their persecution for alleged extremist activities, as mentioned by the European Court of Human Rights regarding violations committed in the region.

“The political representative of Chisinau thanked for the constructive involvement of Tiraspol in solving the problem of supplying the necessary goods to the residents of the Cocieri plateau, during the suspension of the Molovata ferry activity, but also reminded of the need to definitively solve the problem of free movement on the left bank of the Dniester and in Bender city for all categories of citizens, including journalists, with the elimination of the infrastructure of illegal control posts,” the Bureau for Reintegration stated in its clarifications.

Similarly, the problems of farmers from the Dubasari district and of schools teaching in Romanian in the Transnistrian region were reiterated, with an appeal to Tiraspol to be solved in accordance with previously assumed commitments, including advancing on the subject of equipping the theoretical high schools “Evrika” from Râbnița and “Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt” from Grigoriopol with their own premises.

Tiraspol was also proposed a pilot project, so that the inhabitants from the left bank of the Dniester could have access to the 112 Service. It is assumed that implementation could begin with the city of Bender.
