US President, Donald Trump, came to the Oval Office on Thursday evening to report to the press about the dialogue he had with Vladimir Putin a few hours earlier.
The American leader was asked about the potential delivery of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles, for which Volodymyr Zelensky came to discuss in Washington on Friday.
“We talked a bit about the Tomahawks. We need them for the United States. They are very powerful weapons, we have many, but we need them, we can’t deplete our stocks,” said the American president.
He hinted that he joked about this topic – the potential delivery of these missiles to Ukraine – with the Russian president, but he did not appreciate the joke.
“I even told him: ‘Would you mind if I gave a few thousand Tomahawks to the opposing side?’ He didn’t like the idea, but we have to joke sometimes,” he pointed out.
Prior to the statements of the US leader, Moscow reported that Putin told Trump over the phone, regarding a potential supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, that it “would harm the peace process and would affect the ties between the US and Russia”.
