The Republic of Moldova has already demonstrated that it is a reliable partner for the European Union, including through the solidarity shown in crisis management and participation in European civil protection operations. The statement was made by the European Commissioner for Equality, Training and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, on her first visit to the Republic of Moldova.

During a conference held after her first working visit to Moldova, Hadja Lahbib stated that EU membership means more than just joining an institution, but integrating into a community capable of protecting its citizens, notes IPN. The official highlighted the support provided by the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine following the outbreak of war by Russia.

Hadja Lahbib appreciated the participation of the Moldovan rescuers in the European operations to combat fires in Greece. She visited the USAR team of the Republic of Moldova, specialized in urban search and rescue, and expressed her hope that it will soon obtain international certification.

The Commissioner urged the authorities to continue aligning the national civil protection system with European standards.

The official also spoke about equality, the protection of women victims of violence, the inclusion of people with disabilities, and the participation of the Roma community. Moreover, according to her, the Republic of Moldova still has reforms to implement in the field of equality and non-discrimination.
