Ukraine should continue long-range attacks against Russian oil refineries, while Moscow’s proposal to supply diesel on international markets is likely an attempt to alleviate pressure on its energy sector, said retired General Keith Kellogg, former US special envoy for Ukraine, in an interview with Fox News, reports Kyiv Post.

Kellogg stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin likely has hidden motives in organizing diesel deliveries to the USA and global markets, suggesting that Moscow is trying to halt Ukraine’s interdiction operations against its internal petrochemical infrastructure.

“I would tell Vladimir Putin: thank you very much, this really helps us. But I would analyze the hidden motives behind his decision to organize diesel deliveries to the USA and the international market,” Kellogg declared.

According to Kellogg, the Kremlin hopes that Washington will use the ongoing diplomatic negotiations regarding the end of the war to exert pressure on Kiev to suspend attacks. He added that he has no confidence in either Putin or Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s special representative for economic affairs.

“The Russians are trying to convey to the Ukrainians and Americans: enough with the attacks on our oil refineries,” said Kellogg. “The Ukrainians will not do this; they will continue to attack, as they should. This is a military operation, this is a war – and they attack as they should”.
