The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, accused American billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the social network X, on Tuesday of conducting “massive harassment campaigns” on the platform to influence national debates.
In a conference where he addressed the risks of interference in the French presidential elections of 2027, Barrot also criticized the “massive online harassment campaigns by Elon Musk against European leaders,” which he claimed are “designed to influence national debates by exploiting the viral nature of his social network.”
In the context of protests organized by students in France to complain about the conditions in schools, demonstrations that have degenerated into violence in some cases, American President Donald Trump wrote last week on Truth Social that the events in the European country are “nothing less than a mass migration out of control”.
Elon Musk, in turn, commented on the situation.
“It’s a slow invasion, but still an invasion. And those who support the invasion are traitors who deserve the fate of all traitors“, Musk wrote on X.
The French foreign minister asserts that some of the online reports about student protests have been marked by “hostile narratives originating from Russia and China, as well as from Iran and the MAGA community”, referring to supporters of Donald Trump.
“We do not tolerate any foreign interference, whatever its origin. It is a matter of sovereignty“, declared Barrot, during a conference of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which is based in Paris.
