EU publications have been used to spread false information about Moldova. In April 2026, the media resource Omerta promoted anti-government messages, referring to our country.
The narratives were subsequently picked up by voices in the Republic of Moldova, being presented in the domestic space as “opinions from the French press”, according to the most recent report from the Center for Strategic Communication and Counteracting Disinformation in the Republic of Moldova, reports realitatea.md.
“The materials described the Republic of Moldova as an externally controlled state, a ‘geopolitical laboratory’ and a space managed by Western interests, and the state leadership was presented through phrases such as ‘mafia’ or ‘organized crime’,” the analysis states.
Experts assert that in this way, external actors validate propagandistic narratives. They place them on the media market through controversial Western journalists and reintroduce them in the Republic of Moldova as confirmed facts.
