„Again, without reason, Russia economically strikes the Republic of Moldova. This time, it blocks Moldovan carriers.” This is how the Government of Chișinău comments on the decision of the Russian Federation to restrict the entry of Moldovan carriers into its territory. According to the executive, Russia does not respect its commitments and continues to use commercial relations as tools of political pressure, which are contrary to public statements of sympathy for the people of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the executive, Russia’s decision means that Moldovan companies are prohibited from delivering goods to Russia, and carriers are stranded at the border.

“This decision is unilateral, it strikes Moldovan carriers and shows a clear negative attitude on the part of Russia towards harming the Moldovan economy. The Russian decision comes against the backdrop of a period in which the Russian side has consistently refused to participate in technical discussions or to respect previous agreements,” reads a press release.

The government of Chișinău also notes that, specifically, Russia’s decision affects 115 carriers holding permits, and also affects exporters who contract these carriers.

“In order to increase and diversify exports, Moldova has intensified cooperation with other markets and consolidated alternative routes through the European Union, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, so that our companies are not dependent on arbitrary political decisions. An example is the Agreement on the liberalization of road transport of goods with the EU, which has been in force since June 2022, providing access to a predictable market,” the press release further states.
