The cost of a barrel of Brent crude oil has sharply dropped in the last hour, after the US Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, posted on X that the US successfully escorted a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, according to BBC.
More precisely, the price of oil fell from a high of 94 dollars per barrel on Tuesday, then reaching 82 dollars per barrel at 17:30 GMT.
However, Wright’s post on X disappeared shortly after without any explanation. The message stated: “President Trump maintains global energy stability during military operations against Iran.
The US Navy has successfully escorted a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure that oil continues to flow to global markets.”
There are still no naval escorts through the Strait of Hormuz, a source told CNN, after the energy secretary stated that such an operation had taken place. Moreover, the post was deleted a few minutes later.
