The super-yacht of Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov managed to cross the Strait of Hormuz, despite restrictions imposed on ships due to the military conflict between the USA, Israel, and Iran, reports United24media.

According to The Moscow Times publication and maritime monitoring data from April 25, the 142-meter long ship “Nord” left Dubai on April 24. It passed through the strait during the night, heading towards Oman.

The data shows that the yacht was not alone: two oil tankers sanctioned by the Americans, five cargo ships, and a ferry also crossed the strait during the same period.

According to NBC News, Iranian authorities have turned a blind eye and allowed limited traffic through this strategic point, even though official access had been restricted. The fact that ships associated with companies on the blacklist have passed through the strait raises big questions about how strict (or selective) the rules in the region actually are.

The vessel belongs to Aleksei Mordashov, the owner of the Severstal conglomerate. According to Forbes, he is currently the richest man in Russia, with an estimated fortune of 37 billion dollars.

Mordașov is directly targeted by the sanctions imposed by the USA, the UK, and the European Union. His yacht, built in Germany, was quickly registered in Russia as soon as the Western restrictions appeared, to avoid confiscation.
