The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, declared on Thursday that the meeting in Paris of Kiev’s allies served to appoint French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as representatives of Europe for possible peace talks regarding the war with Russia, reported EFE, according to Agerpres.

“Today, we have all agreed in Europe that Europe will be represented by France and the United Kingdom. Macron and Starmer. I believe this is also important. It is a clear position and we want to transmit this signal to all other partners and certainly to the United States,” Zelensky stated, emphasizing the need for Europe to be represented at the negotiating table with Russia.

Zelensky said he regrets that there are still “many questions” and “few answers” regarding the possible deployment of a European contingent on Ukrainian territory, announced by Macron in order to monitor a possible ceasefire with Russia.

Moreover, during a press conference in Paris, the Ukrainian President urged the West to prevent any lifting of sanctions against Russia, as Moscow has requested in order to achieve a ceasefire in the Black Sea, stating that this move would send “very dangerous signals”.

“After the signals we have heard (…) from Saudi Arabia regarding sanctions, the possible lifting of sanctions… These are very dangerous signals,” Zelensky said, quoted by AFP.
