Vladimir Putin and his advisors convey that Russia is ready to discuss with Washington a possible peace agreement in Ukraine, but reject Europe’s role in this process. Moscow considers the Europeans’ efforts “futile” and is awaiting the visit of Donald Trump’s envoy next week.
Russian President Vladimir Putin commented for the first time on the peace plan discussed between the United States and Ukraine. In a conversation with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, Putin hinted that Washington understands the complexity of the situation.
“I believe the Americans understand that we are dealing with a complex issue,” Putin told Lukashenko.
In response, Lukashenko praised Moscow’s openness to negotiations:
“I am pleased to inform you about the direction of obtaining, peacefully, acceptable and desired results for us in Ukraine. I know you are following the situation and that you are always concerned.” The Belarusian leader added that “I hope everything will be fine, considering recent events. I will now publicly say what I told the Americans before: they need to understand that this is a complex issue, requiring complex decisions“.
Moscow awaits Trump’s envoy
According to Russian officials, Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy, is expected to arrive in Moscow next week. The Kremlin claims it is willing to discuss with Washington and that these contacts are already underway.
Bloomberg Agency revealed a conversation between Witkoff and Yuri Ushakov, one of Putin’s main advisors, in which the American would have offered suggestions on how the Kremlin leader can approach Trump in the context of negotiations.
