“The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has promulgated the law which establishes the concept of “genocide against the Soviet people” during World War II.
In a press release from the Kremlin, it is mentioned that the federal law will regulate the preservation of memory, security, and maintenance of the graves of the victims of that genocide. It also establishes a mechanism for searching for burial sites and mass graves, in order to pay tribute to the victims.
The law will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
According to statistics, over 26 million citizens of the former USSR, including eight million soldiers, died during World War II.”
