The European Union intends to significantly extend sanctions against Russia. The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, announced that the list of entities under restrictive measures is expected to be most extended this fall.
The number of sanctioned Russian entities is set to increase by about a third, writes news.ro. Kallas believes that this would motivate Moscow to end the war.
“The EU sanctions have already cost Russia a great deal, depriving Russia’s war machine of over 1 trillion euros (1.16 trillion dollars), and for the fall I propose the most extensive sanctions lists since the beginning of the war,” an official said in an interview given to Die Welt publication.
The EU’s High Representative for policy did not provide further details about the exact schedule or the companies targeted by the new sanctions package.
In July, the EU approved the most recent package of sanctions against Russia and imposed new restrictions on the country’s banking sector and cryptocurrency networks.
So far, the European Union has adopted 21 sanction packages against Russia, currently targeting almost 3000 individuals and companies.
