Russian officials have stated that the country needs to develop “as soon as possible” a domestic version of the game Roblox, after facing backlash for blocking the American gaming platform nationwide.
The Russian media regulation authority, Roskomnadzor, banned Roblox on December 3, arguing that young users were “subjected to sexual harassment, tricked into taking intimate photos, and coerced into committing depraved acts and violence,” according to TVP World.
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Tuesday that the presidential administration had been flooded with “many” messages from children criticizing the decision, some of them claiming they wanted to leave Russia as a result.
Vladislav Grib, deputy secretary of Russia’s Civil Chamber, a group of civilians advising the government, stated that “our equivalent needs to appear immediately, as soon as possible.” He added: “This is important for our children. We need to respect their opinions and needs.”
