Protests have become a business in Moldova, states the director of the Information and Security Service, Alexandru Musteață. According to the official, after a long period in which paid demonstrations took place, people would no longer want to participate in such events for free.

The statement was made on October 9, at the Moldova Security Forum. In Musteață’s opinion, 30 years ago, protesters took to the streets for the sake of ideology, but currently, this no longer has the same magnitude.

“At present, ideology plays a lesser role, and money has replaced it. We are assessing the mobilization capacity of protests in Moldova. We constantly check if the situation could degenerate into violent protests. We have seen that, after so many years of paid protests, when people were only coming out for money, they no longer want to protest without being paid,” Musteață declared, quoted by unimedia.info.

The head of the Security Service in Chisinau referred to the paid demonstrations in recent years, when Sor’s people brought supporters out onto the streets, as well as to Russian electoral interference in the elections in the Republic of Moldova.
