The front line was stabilized by Ukraine through the elimination of a very large number of Russian soldiers, claimed the former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army.
Moscow’s total losses in the war were six times greater than those of Ukraine, and if only the dead are taken into account, the difference reaches 11 times, stated General Oleksandr Sîrski in an exclusive interview for BBC, the first since he was dismissed.
Neither Moscow nor Kiev officially publish complete tallies of the soldiers killed. Instead, British intelligence estimates indicate approximately 500,000 Russian soldiers killed since the beginning of the large-scale invasion in February 2022.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), based in the United States, estimated that Ukraine had lost up to 150,000 military personnel killed by June 2026.
