Ukraine successfully struck the Kamensky plant in Russia’s Rostov region, a facility that produces missiles, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday, according to the Kyiv Independent.
The Ukrainian military’s General Staff announced the attack on the factory a day earlier, saying that both drones and Neptune cruise missiles had been used.
“Our long-range strikes targeted the Rostov region. The Kamensky plant, a Russian defense industry facility involved in missile production, was hit,” Zelensky wrote on social media.
The Kamenski plant is on the sanctions lists of the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States because of its role in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The factory is located approximately 15 kilometres from the Ukrainian border and produces solid propellant for a wide range of missiles, projectiles and weapons intended for Russian military aircraft.
“A Pantsir-S2 system was also hit, along with a command-and-control vehicle belonging to the S-400 Triumf system,” Zelensky said. The damage is estimated at around $70 million.
The attack comes as Russia continues to strike Ukrainian cities, civilians and energy infrastructure ahead of what is shaping up to be Ukraine’s toughest winter yet.
