Vasile Tofan has been proposed for the position of Prime Minister of Moldova by PAS. He is one of the most well-known entrepreneurs and investors in the Republic of Moldova, with over two decades of experience in investments, business development, and corporate governance.
In recent years, his name has been repeatedly mentioned for the position of Prime Minister, and on Friday, July 10th, PAS officially announced that they will propose him for the head of the Government, writes bani.md. Tofan is a Senior Partner at Horizon Capital, one of the largest investment funds in Eastern Europe, which also operates in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. In this capacity, he has coordinated the activities of companies in the region and promoted the attraction of foreign capital to the Moldovan economy.
In addition to his activity within Horizon Capital, Vasile Tofan holds significant positions in the management of some of the leading companies in the Republic of Moldova: he is the Vice President of the Board of Directors at maib – the largest bank in the Republic of Moldova, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Purcari Wineries – one of the largest wine producers in Central and Eastern Europe, and a member of the Board of Directors at the TV8 television station.
Tofan has built his career in the private and investment sector. He has accumulated experience both in the Republic of Moldova and abroad. In recent years, the businessman has been involved in debates on economic and fiscal policies. Recently, he published a 12-point reform plan, which includes reducing public spending, reforming administration, and stimulating private investment, appreciating that the Republic of Moldova needs profound economic changes.
The name of Vasile Tofan is not appearing for the first time in discussions about the prime minister’s office. In 2025, the press reported that he was proposed to lead the Executive, but he did not take up the position. In recent days, following the resignation of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Tofan reappeared in the center of political speculation, and the leader of PAS, Igor Grosu, released a video on Facebook officially confirming that he is nominating him for the position of Prime Minister.
