Although the Republic of Moldova has aligned with international sanctions, products from Russia and Belarus can still be found on our store shelves. The Minister of Economy, Eugeniu Osmochescu, explained that these could enter the country through re-export or packaging mechanisms in other countries.

The statements were made during the show “Point on Today” on TVR Moldova, in the context of the dissatisfaction expressed by local producers. They claim that imports from Russia and Belarus severely affect their activity.

“For me, it has always been a mystery to see products from the Russian Federation in stores, and I even had discussions about the need to undertake certain actions to stop this. We need to see how they infiltrate, because it’s about a possible transition of other customs territories, not only of the European Union, but also of other states”, declared Osmochescu.

The Minister further stated that a firm decision is needed in the context of imports through intermediaries or repackaging of products from these states.

Statistics show that imports from CIS countries have significantly decreased, reaching only 2.6% in the first months of 2026. At the same time, the trade of the Republic of Moldova is increasingly oriented towards the European Union.
